FARAWAY BAY

Custom Itinerary offered by Newington Photography

Faraway Bay, Coastal Kimberly of Western Australia

Faraway Bay is an inviting haven, nestled on a rocky hilltop overlooking the turquoise Timor Sea. Our location, 280kms northwest of Kununurra, is in the remote and spellbinding Kimberley Coastal region of Western Australia. Though simple, Faraway Bay provides unrivalled luxury, with eight spacious cabins scattered among natural bush, offering privacy and 180-degree views of a spectacular cliff-lined bay. Cocooned in this natural environment, there is nothing to distract you from absorbing the extraordinary sights, sounds, and magic of this isolated slice of the Kimberley Coast.

Explore the region’s rare natural wonders and discover the secrets of this ancient landscape. Be mesmerized by Ice Age rock art. Sightsee by foot, 4WD, or boat. Fish to your heart’s content. Bird-watch or meet the local wildlife. Dine on freshly caught seafood and local produce. Beach comb. Then lounge, stargaze, and lounge some more.

The Faraway Bay Photographic Experience offers a wide scope of subject matter dominated by iconic Australian wildlife and stunning coastal vistas and some of the best sunsets you'll ever see. This is another great opportunity for photographers to take their work to a higher level while experiencing one of the most remote wilderness retreats in the world.

Our all-inclusive rate covers accommodation, all guided activities, and all freshly prepared gourmet meals and beverages including select fine Australian wines and beers. Please Note: Packages are ex-Kununurra and include pick-up from accommodation and scenic air transfers to and from Faraway Bay, incorporating a flight over Western Australia’s highest waterfall, the iconic twin King George Falls. Rates include accommodation; 4WD transfer from Faraway Bay airstrip to Faraway Bay; meals, wine, beer, soft drinks, all tours and activities (King George Falls; swimming holes, billabongs and waterfalls; Indigenous rock art including Bradshaw Art; sunset tours, crocodile tours, bird watching, bush walks, beachcombing, star gazing, 4WD tours; and guided fishing trips in runabout boats). Please note that some activities are subject to weather, tides, and seasonal conditions.

Faraway Bay is an inviting haven, nestled on a rocky hilltop overlooking the turquoise Timor Sea. Our location, 280kms northwest of Kununurra, is in the remote and spellbinding Kimberley Coastal region of Western Australia. This truly unique and multi-award-winning wilderness retreat is owned and operated by hosts Kevin and Kathie Reilly. They fell in love with Faraway Bay the moment they set eyes on it, like so many do. They operate it as their own family business and everyone that visits becomes part of their Faraway Bay Family.

With it's rich history it has many great Aussie tales to tell. The camp itself was built mostly from local materials, including massive pylons that once supported the Wyndham Wharf (180kms away) and original telegraph poles from Halls Creek (300kms away). After years of sharing this authentic outback experience with guests, the camp suffered a major blow in March 2005. With only few weeks to go until the season opening, Cyclone Ingrid's 280km/hr winds directly hit and devastated the camp. Two staff members braved the storm and sheltered in a storage unit, which had been chained and concreted in place, but sadly the cabins of Faraway Bay were destroyed. In true Aussie spirit and with bush determination, passionate past guests and Kununurra residents volunteered to help reconstruct the camp. Laboring in over 40°C heat, it was rebuilt in just one month, opening improved and refreshed for guests in April 2005. Today, our guests enjoy the fruits of that labor of love.

With simple and elegant cabins, Faraway Bay provides unrivalled luxury in a bush camp setting. Our accommodation includes eight spacious, elevated cabins scattered amongst natural Australian bushland. Each offers complete privacy and 180-degree views of the spectacular cliff-lined bay. Our private outdoor showers with views over the ocean are an experience you'll never forget! Faraway Bay provides a truly remote wilderness experience with all the extras to enjoy in comfort and style. And while the wildlife is prolific, the neighbors are not. With a maximum of just 16 guests at any time, your privacy is ensured.

All cabins feature:

  • Ensuites with flushing toilet and hand basin, along with a private outdoor solar-heated spring-water shower.

  • Ensemble single or king-size beds (all linens supplied).

  • A selection of luxurious locally handcrafted aromatherapy soaps and toiletries, including shampoos and conditioners, moisturizers, after-sun lotion and natural insect repellent.

  • 240V overhead fans and lighting, with mosquito nets.

  • Private yet within close proximity to the spectacular Eagle Lodge.

One of the most remote wilderness retreats in the world, Faraway Bay combines pure comfort and relaxation with bush camp simplicity. It's a truly unique and awe-inspiring Australian outback experience.

At Faraway Bay, a few days can feel like a week, and a week can change the way you feel forever.
